Storm Paolo displaces nearly 200 households in Tawi-Tawi


Tropical Storm Paolo has displaced nearly 200 households in the province of Tawi-Tawi in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, with its storm surges crashing into coastal areas on the evening of October 19, local disaster response officials said Friday.

Initial data gathered by the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council (PDRRMO) indicated that as of as of 10:45 a.m.  on Friday, 181 households have been evacuated due the effects of storm surges on some coastal barangays in the town of Bangao. 

The total number of affected households includes:

  • Barangay Tubig Tanah:                           63 Households
  • Barangay Lamion:                                     71 Households
  • Barangay Simandagit (Kasulutan):    47 Households

Displaced families are staying in evacuation centers in Barangay Tubig Tanah Covered Court and in Barangay Pag-asa Covered Court.

The Municipal government of Bongao served evacuees with initial supply of water and biscuits upon their arrival on Thursday evening. Hot porridge (aroz caldo) was served Friday morning. 

Meanwhile, food packs for evacuees from Barangays of Lamion, Tubig Tanah, and Simandagit are being readied for distribution by the local government.  —Peewee Bacuño/LBG, GMA News
