Pick-up speeds up, falls down pier in Negros Oriental

A pick-up truck on Wednesday sped towards the waters off the port instead of moving slowly into the waiting roll-on-roll-off vessel in Sibulan, Negros Oriental.

According to a report on "Balita Pilipinas", the driver mistakenly stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake pedal, causing the pick-up to jump off the pier.

The pick-up fortunately didn't fall completely into the sea.

Rescuers were able to pull the vehicle, its six occupants, all from Dumaguete, and their belongings up the pier using a rope.

Sibulan police appealed to the pier to put extra safeguards around it to avoid similar incidents in the future. —Rie Takumi/NB, GMA News
