One dead in Davao City blaze; 200 families lose homes

One person died and 200 families lost their homes in a fire in Pag-Asa, Barangay 5A Bankerohan, Davao City on Wednesday morning, according to a report by Tek Ocampo on Balitanghali.

Firefighters had difficulty entering the area due to the narrow streets leading to the fire that destroyed 100 houses in the barangay's Purok 6A and 6B.

The fire reached task force alpha due to the blaze spreading quickly along the houses made of light materials, necessitating aid from nearby fire stations.

District Fire Marshall Fire Superintendent Honey Fritz Alagano said they are still determining the cause of the fire.

Barangay and City Social Services and Development Office gave preliminary aid to the affected families, who are currently staying in a multi-purpose gym in Barangay 5A Bankerohan. — Rie Takumi/BM, GMA News
