Legazpi Airport reopened to commercial flights
After being temporarily closed due to the threats from the restive Mayon Volcano, the Legazpi Airport has been reopened to commercial flights, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said Friday.
In an advisory, the CAAP said it issued a notice to airmen (NOTAM) opening the Legazpi Airport for commercial operations effective 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 26 and from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily starting Jan. 27 until Jan. 31.
CAAP said the Legazpi, Naga, and Masbate airports are operational pursuant to visual meteorological conditions (VMC), in which pilots have sufficient visibility to fly aircraft.
The aviation authority said Mayon Volcano is still on alert Level 4 and advised pilots flying near the area to exercise extreme caution, as ash from volcanic eruption can be hazardous to the aircraft.
CAAP also advised passengers to coordinate with their respective airlines on the flight schedules that may be affected by the changing VMCs brought about by continuing Mayon Volcano eruption. — MDM, GMA News
