Boracay resort owners express concern over Duterte’s threat to close the island

Resort owners in Boracay expressed concern over President Rodrigo Duterte's threat to close down Boracay if environmental issues remain unaddressed in six months' time.

According to a report on GMA's "24 Oras Weekend" on Sunday, the resort owners said they understand the President's remarks, but that threats would not resolve the issue.

The resort owners, however, said they are willing to work with the government to address the environmental issues.

This comes after Duterte on Friday threatened to close down Boracay which he described as a "cesspool," as he ordered Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu to clean the island in six months.
