In an interview on QRT, Cainta police chief Superintendent Raynold Rosero said they had received information from a concerned citizen that there were some armed men in Lakas Tao floodway on Sunday night.
Senior Inspector Jimmy Senosin led a team to the area to verify the report.
Upon seeing the police, the suspect, accompanied by an individual known as Ekis, ran off, but the police gave chase.
When Gomez and Ekis ended up in a dark alley, the police told them to surrender, but Gomez fired at them and threw a grenade.
Senosin was killed while a bystander was injured. Gomez escaped.
According to Rosero, Gomez is involved in robbery and the trafficking of illegal drugs.
May mga dati na ring kaso, illegal possession of firearms saka mga robbery-holdup," Rosero said in a separate Balita Pilipinas report.
The Cainta police chief also vowed to give aid to Senosin's grieving family.
— Anna Felicia Bajo/BM, GMA News
