Siargao Airport operations put on hold after jet overshoots runway

Operations at Siargao Airport were temporarily put on hold on Tuesday after an incident involving a Skyjet Airlines plane.

In a text message, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) spokesperson Eric Apolonio said the airport was shut down due to an incident past at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

“Flight M8-421 of SkyJet overshot the runway upon landing at 11:25 a.m. today, but all 73 passengers are safe with no injuries and were brought to the airport terminal,” he said.

“CAAP suspended landing and takeoff until the said aircraft (registry number RP-C3855) was towed at 3 p.m. to the airport bay. Return flight to Manila was likewise canceled," Apolonio noted.

The Siargao Airport terminal is only open from 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Apolonio noted authorities are now looking into the matter.

“CAAP accident investigators were immediately dispatched to conduct investigation,” he said, but did not elaborate. —VDS, GMA News
