Pregnant woman dies, 9 hurt as van falls into Quezon ravine


A pregnant woman died and at least nine others were hurt when a van fell into a ravine along a highway in Tagkawayan, Quezon before dawn Sunday.

Police identified the pregnant woman as Sagira Haji Ebrehim.

Investigators said the victims, residents of Piagapo, Lanao del Sur, were bound for Manila when their van fell into a 40-foot ravine along Quirino Highway in Barangay Francisco at past 4 a.m..

Before falling into the ravine, the van hit a roadside store and a waiting shed, police added.

The wounded victims, including van driver Alinor Lomondot, were initially rushed to the Maria Eleazar Hospital and later transferred to a hospital in Manila due to severe injuries.

The other wounded victims were identified as Salmira Haji Ebrahim, Alnor Lomondot, Karen Galecia, Don Robert Galecia, Jericho Sablayan, Jonard Pusngan, Camadoleng Lomondot, and a certain Allan.

Police suspect that Lomondot fell asleep while driving the van. —report from Peewee Bacuño/ALG, GMA News
