Charges filed vs. suspect in killing of former La Union Rep. Eriguel

A male suspect in the killing of former La Union Representative Eufranio Eriguel has been charged, according to a report on News To Go on Wednesday.

Charged with three counts of murder was Felizardo Villanueva.

The suspect ran for barangay captain in Barangay Capas in Agoo, La Union in the May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, but he did not win.

Villanueva, who was arrested on Monday, has yet to issue a statement.

Eriguel was gunned down on Saturday after he delivered a speech at a miting de avance in Barangay Capas.

Investigation showed that at least nine firearms were used in the shooting which resulted in the death of Eriguel and his two bodyguards.

The shooting was captured on closed-circuit television.

Authorities are investigating whether the murder was politically motivated.

Manhunt operations are ongoing to locate the other suspects. —KG, GMA News
