Police probe on Mayor Halili slay to include reenactment

Calabarzon police director Chief Superintendent Edward Carranza on Tuesday said a reenactment will be part of the investigation on Monday morning's assassination of Tanauan City, Batangas Mayor Antonio Halili to establish the shooter's "line of sight."

"Pinapa-reenact po namin 'yun to finally establish the line of sight ng gunman sa pagpasok po ng bala sa katawan ng ating alkalde," Carranza said in an interview on Unang Balita.

Halili, controversial for parading suspected criminals in public, was shot from afar during the flag-raising ceremony at the city hall. He died from a single bullet wound to the chest.

Officials suspect the gunman may have used the road beside the grassy field across the city hall complex.

"May kalsada po sa likuran niyan," Carranza said, "Pinare-review po namin kung anuman 'yung pick-up ng mga CCTV sa likod po ng kalsada ng masukal na lugar na 'yan."

The regional police chief said no foreign materials aside from a single bullet shell was found in the "sniper hole" where they believe the gunman positioned himself before shooting Halili.

"Wala po tayong na-recover diyan na any foreign materials, except for doon sa basyo na hinawakan po ngayon ng crime lab na baka po may makuhang characteristic doon in case meron po tayong suspect," Carranza said.

Carranza said they will leave no stone unturned in the investigation.

Interior and Local Government officer-in-charge Eduardo Año does not believe the killing of Halili was linked to his inclusion in the "narco list" or list of politicians with alleged connections to the illegal drugs trade or other criminal activities.

President Rodrigo Duterte, however, directly linked the assassination to Halili's alleged links to the narcotics trade. —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
