ARMM assemblyman survives, aide killed in ambush

Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Assemblyman Sidik Amiril survived an ambush in the Ciudad de Esperanza subdivision in Barangay Buhangin, Davao City on Monday.

According to a report on Balitanghali on Wednesday, the police said Amiril and four companions were aboard a pick-up truck when they were fired upon by gunmen aboard a grey van that drove by to overtake them.

Amiril, who was sitting in the front seat, survived the attack but his aide Verei Adas in the back seat was killed on the spot.

Adas was hit by a bullet from an M-16 rifle.

Authorities are looking into politics as the motive in the attack.

The angle of Amiril's alleged links to the illegal drug trade is also being investigated.

An earlier report on Tuesday said the still-unidentified gunmen were able to escape the incident that took place at around 2 p.m.

The attack happened just hours after the attack on another local government official, Tanauan, Batangas Mayor Antonio Halili, who was killed; and a day before
