Fish dried near garbage in Cebu City barangay

Health and sanitation officials of Cebu City on Wednesday expressed alarm over the drying of fish near garbage in Barangay Pasil.

According to Raffy Tima's report on "24 Oras", the dried fish operation in Sitio Sawang Caliro slipped past the city's Environmental Sanitation Division.

"Hindi namin namonitor 'yun, di nalaman ng mga inspector namin kasi ung una siguro maliit lang 'yan tapos ngayon dumami na," division chief Dr. Eliseo Virtucio II said.

"Ang danger doon kung may langaw, 'yung mga basura tapos pumunta sa daing, 'yung macontaminate kaya dapat sa malinis na lugar," he added.

Ricky Cabanes, one of those who dry fish in the area, maintained that their products were clean and safe to eat.

He added that they have not received any complaints on their dried fish.

"Nakapatong kasi sa taas eh, okay na 'yan," Cabanes said.

Authorities vowed to inspect the said location.

"Pupuntahan 'yun ng inspector namin, iinspect 'yun," Virtucio said. —NB, GMA News
