Ompong's landfall site Baggao, Cagayan incurred most damage —DND

The municipality of Baggao in the province of Cagayan incurred the most damage from the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said on Saturday.

Baggao was the landfall site of Ompong, which reached Cagayan early Saturday morning.

"Apparently yung Baggao yung pinakamalaking sira na natamo, kasi sila yung unang nasalubong yung bagyo," he said during a briefing with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Citing reports he received, Lorenzana said three electric towers were ruined, and 1,000 houses along the road heading to Baggao, as well as houses in Baggao Old Town, were destroyed.

Plenty of properties and agriculture, especially palay and root crops, were also destroyed by the storm.

Eight barangays are currently isolated with no means of communication, Lorenzana said.

A child was also rescued during clearing operations in Baggao Old Town.

Lorenzana said he is waiting for reports from Isabela and Batanes. —JST, GMA News
