Mayor of landslide-hit Itogon town: Total mining ban to start Oct. 1

Benguet province's Itogon Mayor Victorio Palangdan reminded mining operators in the town that by Monday, October 1, 2018, a total ban will be in effect in the town and violators would face sanctions.

The killer landslide in Barangay Ucab that killed scores of miners and members of their families, and left several others missing had prompted the mining ban.

Likewise, Palangadan told Super Radyo dzBB on Saturday that retrieval operations in Ucab will continue, even if rescue operations have already been stopped as the possibility of life under the rubble is nil.

He said that as of Saturday, the body count of those who died in landslides and other causes during the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong over two weeks ago was 87, with 15 others still missing. —LBG, GMA News
