2 improvised bombs recovered by troops in Maguindanao

Government troops recovered and defused two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in separate areas in Maguindanao.

Military personnel from the Bravo Company of the 90th Infantry Battalion and Guindulungan Municipal Police personnel recovered the first improvised bomb in Barangay Macasampen in the Municipality of Guindulungan on Tuesday night.

At the site, the group also recovered four 81mm mortars, one 61mm mortar, and two cellphones with sim cards and electronic wires.

The second IED, which was placed inside a water container, was reported by a civilian early Wednesday morning.

The IED was recovered along the national highway in Barangay Tamontaka in the municipality of Datu Odin Sinsuat. The area was cordoned off by troops from the Charlie Company of the 90th Infantry Battalion, 5th Special Forces Battalion, and Datu Odin Sinsuat Municipal Police personnel.

An unexploded ordnance of 81mm projectile, a booster, and a cellphone with sim card and detonating cord were recovered by the bomb disposal team.

The highway was opened to motorists after the operation.

No one was reported hurt in the said operations.

Maj. Gen. Cirilito E. Sobejana, 6th Infantry Division commander, said the IEDs were intentionally planted by members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) to cause chaos and to inflict harm.

“I strongly urge the civilian community to be on high alert at all times and to immediately report any suspicious things or person to the authorities to prevent the terrorists from sowing terror,” he said. — Dona Magsino/BAP, GMA News
