2 cops injured in encounter with Balaoan ambush suspects

Two cops were injured in an armed encounter with the suspects behind the ambush of the mayor and vice mayor of Balaoan, La Union.

In a report on GMA News TV Quick Response Team on Thursday, police said they received a report on Wednesday that armed men inside a vehicle were spotted near a school in San Juan town.

When the two police officers in the area approached the vehicle, they were fired upon by the suspects.

The cops sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately brought to the hospital.

The suspects escaped using another get-away vehicle.

Meanwhile, the plate number of the abandoned bullet-ridden vehicle was found to be fake.

Investigation on the identities of the suspects is ongoing.

On Wednesday, Balaoan Vice Mayor Alfred Concepcion and his aide Michael Ulep died in an ambush along the Banlaon-Luna road in Barangay Antonino at 8:22 a.m.

His daughter Balaoan Mayor Aleli Concepcion, and eight others were injured. — Dona Magsino/BAP, GMA News
