'Isolated small landslides' reported amid TD Samuel —NDRRMC

"Isolated landslides" have been reported in areas affected by Tropical Depression Samuel, which made landfall past Tuesday midnight, according to Director Edgar Posadas of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Interviewed on Unang Balita on Wednesday, Posadas said these were just "small" landslides and no casualties have so far been reported from them.

"Aside from reported isolated landslides po, mga maliliit na landslides, and flooding po which occurred even before the landfall kaninang madaling araw, wala pa po tayong naitatala aside from those who were preemptively evacuated," Posadas said.

Anticipating possible landslides because of the cyclone, Posadas said they issued a memorandum over the weekend urging local government units in affected areas to intensify their information drive and evacuation efforts.

"As early as Saturday, nagpalabas ng memorandum para paigtingin 'yung compliance ng pagpapaalam doon sa komunidad, sa pagpapaunawa sa kanila, at same time yung tutok natin sa preemptive evacuation na pinatupad naman po," he said.

As of Wednesday morning, 17 areas in the Visayas were under Signal No. 1 due to Samuel, which weakened after landfall and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday morning. —KBK, GMA News
