Pope prays for all affected by landslide burying Chinese village

VATICAN CITY - Pope Francis urged the crowds gathered in St. Peter's Square on Sunday to pray with him for all those affected by the landslide in China.

A huge landslide crashed down on the village of Xinmo, in mountainous Sichuan province, as dawn broke on Saturday.

Authorities at the scene said on Sunday 10 bodies had been confirmed recovered, refuting a report by the Xinhua state news agency on Saturday that 15 people had been confirmed killed.

Heavy rain triggered the landslide, authorities said, and more light showers are forecast but are not expected to affect the search, the state broadcaster China Central Television reported. — Reuters
