Pinay student abducted, found dead in Irish countryside

A Filipina student abducted nearly three days ago was found dead in an old mine in Kilternan, south of Dublin in Ireland, The Irish Times reported.

The remains of 24-year-old Jastine Valdez was found among bushes near the disused Ballycorus lead mine along Puck's Castle Lane, near the abandoned Puck's Castle Golf Course where her purse was found.

RTE News later reported that Valdez was confirmed to have been strangled about 45 minutes after she was abducted by suspected killer Mark Hennessy, who was killed in an altercation with gardaí or Irish police in South Dublin on Sunday.

Valdez was walking to her home in Enniskerry on Saturday when Hennessy forced her into a Nissan Quashqai. The car was found 35 minutes later on the Quarry Road near the site where the victim's body was found.

Police are analyzing a blood-stained note found in the car left by Hennessy to help establish a motive behind the crime.

Valdez, as described by the Irish Times, came to Ireland to be with her parents and to study three years ago. She, an only child, was a freshman part-time accounting and finance student at the Institute of Technology-Tallaght.

A minute silence was held during a candlelight vigil in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow attended by hundreds, including members of the Filipino community, in memory of Valdez. —Rie Takumi/KG, GMA News
