LOOK: Epal papal visit tarp dwarfs jeepney in Cavite

Cavite may not be on Pope Francis' itinerary during his five-day Philippine visit, but some officials there have posted a huge tarpaulin welcoming him - and with their names on it.

A photo sent by YouScooper Rey Refran Wednesday morning showed the tarpaulin placed under two giant billboards in Bacoor City in Cavite.

The photo showed the tarp dwarfing a passenger jeepney under the billboard structure.

It contained an image of Pope Francis with the message "WELCOME Pope Francis," along with the names of Bacoor and Cavite officials including Mayor Strike Revilla and Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla.

Rep. Mercado-Revilla's husband, Sen. Ramon Bong Revilla Jr., is detained at the Philippine National Police headquarters over charges of graft and plunder, in connection with the P10-billion pork barrel scam.

So-called epal posters started sprouting since last weekend in Metro Manila and in some province. They contained a welcome message for the pope - along with the names of local officials.

Some of them, particularly those in Manila, had been removed by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Pope Francis is to arrive in the country Thursday for a five-day visit. He will take part in activities in Metro Manila and Leyte.  — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
