UE, La Salle-Zobel sweep 1st round of UAAP junior volleyball tournament

Defending seven-time boys' champion University of the East (UE) and reigning girls’ titlist La Salle-Zobel booked convincing first-round sweeps in the 74th UAAP juniors volleyball tournament over the weekend at the UE-Caloocan gym. The Junior Warriors swept their five games in the first round following a 25-17, 25-12, 25-15 demolition of the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs. The Junior Warriors didn't drop a set in the first round. National University (NU) came in second in the boys' division with a 4-1 card, capping the first round with a 25-10, 25-11, 25-8 rout of the University of the Philippines Intergrated School Junior Maroons. Ateneo defeated La Salle-Zobel, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19, also last weekend. The Tiger Cubs was third with a 3-2 slate, followed by Ateneo's 2-3 record. The La Salle Zobel girls beat UPIS, 25-11, 25-15, 25-14, to go 4-0. UE was second with 3-1 capped by a 25-18, 25-14, 25-20 victory over UST, which dropped to a 2-2 record for third place. — JVP, GMA News
