PAGASA: No cyclone, but expect light rains on Black Nazarene weekend

Devotees may have to bring umbrellas or brace for rain when they take part in activities for the Feast of the Black Nazarene in Manila this weekend.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Friday light rain may fall on Metro Manila over the next three days.

"Metro Manila will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible occurrence of light rains during the next three days. This is due to the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan that will affect Luzon Area including Metro Manila during this period," PAGASA administrator Nathaniel Servando said in the agency's special outlook for the Feast of the Black Nazarene, which falls on Jan. 9.

Millions of devotees of the Black Nazarene, whose image is believed to have miraculous powers, are expected to take part in the yearly procession on Monday.

Earlier Friday, many devotees trooped to the Quiapo Church to attend the First Friday Mass.

Devotees are expected to take part in activities such as processions starting on Saturday.

Servando said Visayas and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rain over Eastern Visayas and Southern Mindanao due to wind convergence and southward migration of the tail-end of a cold front.

However, he said no tropical cyclone development is expected for the next two to three days.
