GMA News and Public Affairs strengthens Serbisyong Totoo with “Buhay Ang Gabi” campaign

GMA News and Public Affairs, the country’s most-awarded and most credible broadcast news organization, launches “Night Shift,” its flagship evening public affairs strip beginning Monday, July 22.
 

The “Night Shift” block includes multi-awarded public affairs programs I-Witness, Reporter's Notebook, Born To Be Wild, and Alisto. With its tagline “Buhay Ang Gabi,” Night Shift provides substance and quality television to its viewers at the end of each day.
 

Night Shift opens with “Langis Sa Tubig,” Peabody awardee Kara David’s in-depth documentary on the black oil livelihood in Quezon province, which airs this Monday in I-Witness. In this compelling tale of hard work and struggle, David immerses herself into the pains of extracting precious oil from foul-smelling waste to describe some Filipinos’ battle with poverty. Joining David in mounting documentaries for the Network’s longest-running public affairs program are award-winning broadcast journalists Howie Severino, Jay Taruc, and Sandra Aguinaldo.
 

Reporter’s Notebook follows on Tuesday with fearless investigative reports that seek accountability from public officials. In this Tuesday’s Night Shift, hosts Maki Pulido and Jiggy Manicad expose illegal black sand mining in Cagayan and illegal logging activities in the Sierra Madre forests. Beginning this week, viewers can also participate in live online discussions that aim to send direct feedback to government agencies through the “Tag Reporter’s Notebook” campaign. Viewers can simply tag the show’s official Twitter account (@ReportersNBGMA7) to ask questions, give feedback to concerned agencies, and participate in the live discussions.
 

On Wednesdays, the Philippines’ first environmental documentary program, Born To Be Wild, shows the best of the natural world through its dedicated team of wildlife filmmakers. This Wednesday, marvel at rare video footage of two iconic animals—the Philippine Tamaraw and the shark—captured by the latest in filming technology. Veterinarians Ferds Recio and Nielsen Donato showcase fascinating behaviors of the wild Philippine Tamaraw using high-end telephoto lenses and helicam shots, in addition to amazing shark encounters captured using high-definition underwater cameras.
 

Anchored by GMA News Pillar Arnold Clavio, Alisto! caps off the Network’s late-night public affairs strip on Thursdays, airing videos of crimes, accidents, and documented hazards – as captured by CCTV cameras, cellphone cameras, and other video recorders, to stress greater vigilance among the public. This Thursday, Alisto! airs actual videos of children being abused by their babysitters, citizen-initiated Youscoop videos of cars razed by fire, and CCTV footage of various crimes. Starting this week, the program likewise launches its “Alisto Ako!” campaign which seeks to inform the public of possible threats through mini-segments within the program, related events in key areas, and strategically-placed campaign posters and stickers.
