Restive Mayon Volcano erupts anew
Mayon Volcano erupted again on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
PHIVOLCS said the latest eruption was recorded at 8:54 a.m. It said the event was also a phreatomagmatic eruption, the same as Monday's eruption, followed by pyroclastic flows.
A video posted by PHIVOLCS on its Facebook page showed thick grayish ash from the volcano.
At 1:32 a.m., PHIVOLCS observed lava fountaining from the Mayon Volcano's crater accompanied by loud rumbling sounds.
Alert Level 4 was raised by the PHIVOLCS over Mayon Volcano on Monday afternoon after its eruptions, which produced thick ash clouds that covered a large part of Albay province.
Classes in all levels in the province have been suspended by the governor. Classes in some towns in its neighboring province, Camarines Sur, have also been suspended.
The provincial government said nearly 36,000 people have been evacuated from the eight-kilometer danger zone of the volcano. —ALG, GMA News
