Geek channel G4TV gets the axe

Sad news rocked the popculture and geek community September 7, as longtime network and TV station “G4TV” will reportedly be “rebranded” next year for a more “modern male” audience according to Variety , Slash Film, and Kotaku
The network, owned by NBC Universal, is supposedly undergoing a makeover that is set to change its well-established —and much beloved— focus on geek culture, including video games and consumer tech.

Best known for “Attack of the Show” (AotS) and its annual coverage of the Electronic Entertainment Expo and San Diego Comic-Con, G4TV is a haven dedicated to gamers and popculture enthusiasts. It was widely available in the United States, with some international cable providers screening some programs —if not the whole channel— in certain portions of the world. The rebranding comes at a time where the network is struggling to keep afloat, and where AotS hosts Kevin Pereira and Olivia Munn have already left to pursue other endeavors. NBCU has decided to take things in another direction that will most likely eliminate the allure that fans and nerds have come to love and focus on something that’s trendy.   How that will impact the future of this network remains to be seen. — TJD, GMA News
