Google upgrades spell checker in new Chrome beta

Google this week upgraded its spell checker in the new beta of its Chrome browser, improving its dictionary and allowing it to share custom dictionaries across their devices. Software engineer Rachel Petterson said users who sign in to Chrome in various devices will now be able to sync their custom spell dictionaries. "Users who sync their settings will also notice their custom dictionary gets shared across devices now, so you won’t need to teach that new Chromebook how to spell your name," Petterson said in a blog post. Users on Windows, Linux and Chrome OS will get first crack at the new features, with support for Mac coming soon. She also said they have refreshed the dictionaries for Chrome’s default spell checker, and added support for Korean, Tamil and Albanian. As for users who enabled the "Ask Google for suggestions" spell check feature, Petterson said Google is rolling out support for grammar, homonym and context-sensitive spell checking in English. These will use the same technologies used by Google search, she said. Support for additional languages is on the way, she added. "The new spell checking engine – which is also available in Google Docs – even understands proper nouns like 'Justin Bieber' and 'Skrillex,' so if you're wondering how many Ns there are in Dananananaykroyd, worry no more (there are four)," she said. — LBG, GMA News
