‘Sonic Boom’ reveals new look for Sonic and friends

Everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog is getting a new makeover for the next generation of gaming. SEGA unveils the new look of titular character Sonic, the Hedgehog, and his friends with a new teaser video for its upcoming new game for the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS.

“Sonic Boom”  was revealed at a press conference event in New York City, and the new looks for Sonic's team aren’t just for the upcoming new game, SEGA is also developing a new animated TV series, plus a line of toys that will be developed by Tomy (the creators of Pokemon toys).

Sonic The Hedgehog first appeared in the 1991 video game of the same name for SEGA’s MegaDrive/Genesis console. It met with critical and widespread acclaim worldwide thanks to its simple and addicting side-scrolling game play.

The new game features Sonic with a few more inches on his height, sporting a scarf, and bandages covering his hands and feet.

His supporting cast, that includes Miles “Tails” Prower, Amy Rose The Hedgehog, and Knuckles The Echidna, have also gone through their own cosmetic and physical alterations.

These new character designs is a big step in the franchise’s evolution, giving a new generation of fans the chance to familiarize themselves with the exposure and highlights SEGA is giving to this new concept.

Developed using the CryEngine 3 system, “Sonic Boom” for the Wii U will prioritize cooperfative play, allowing two players to play together in the main story. Other modes will support up to four players in total. The game will emphasize more adventure and exploration while still retaining the high-speed movement and excitement that has been the series's staple.

The 3DS version of the game has a different story albeit set in the same world as its Wii U counterpart. Both platform versions are also reportedly set before the events of the upcoming TV show, but certain events happening in the story may play out in both mediums. — KDM GMA News
