A surprise Vision: Leaked concept art for upcoming Avengers movie

You’d think that, for someone called “The Vision,” things would have been crystal clear early on.

After being revealed as part of the roster of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the upcoming blockbuster “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” back in February, the cinematic design of the heroic android, who will be portrayed by British actor Paul Bettany, has been carefully obscured from movie fans, comic book buffs, and even the Internet’s line of sight.

Until now, that is.

Playing peek-a-boo with the Avengers

The world’s first official look at the android, who made his comic book debut in the pages of 1968’s The Avengers #57, came in the form of a poster revealed at the 2014 San Diego Comic Con in July. Part of an interlocking mega-poster depicting the new lineup of the team, the Vision has his back turned in the poster, levitating and fighting off Ultron’s horde of drones in the background as the speedy Quicksilver takes center stage.

However, a more complete look at the Vision soon surfaced on the Internet, via the Instagram account of Yeongjip Kim. The user’s profile has since been deactivated.

A clearer Vision

True to the character’s name, though, the Vision could not stay hidden for long.

After a full-body image of the character – covered in watermarks bearing the name of statue and collectible-making company Sideshow Collectibles – made the rounds on various social media sites and geek forums over the weekend, io9 posted a “clean” version of the image, edited by user Gene Jacket.

“The thing that appealed to me [about the character] was this sort of nascent creature being born and being both sort of omnipotent and totally naïve,” revealed Bettany, who also provided the voice of Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man’s personal digital assistant J.A.R.V.I.S. in “The Avengers” and the “Iron Man” trilogy, in an interview with Comic Book Resources. “And the danger of that and the sort of complex nature of somebody, of a thing being born that is that powerful and that fully created in a second.”

“And the choices that he makes morally, I think, are really complex and interesting.”

Directed by Joss Whedon, “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” also stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/the Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver, Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch, James Spader as Ultron, and Thomas Kretschmann as Baron Wolfgang von Strucker. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2015. — TJD, GMA News
