Huge ‘Overwatch,’ ‘Heroes of the Storm’ updates revealed at BlizzCon2017

Blizzard fans were in a celebratory mood as the game industry giant’s annual celebration, BlizzCon, treated fans to numerous reveals about its popular titles.

Taking place at Anaheim, California on November 3 and 4, BlizzCon 2017 made huge announcements about “Overwatch” and “Heroes of the Storm.”

Overwatch

Blizzard unveiled Moira, the new “Overwatch” hero, who will soon join the roster as a playable character.

An ex-Blackwatch member who is currently loyal to Talon, 48-year-old Moira O’Deorain is a geneticist with questionable ethics. Her support hero role revolves around leeching life off enemies to heal herself and her allies. She can also teleport short distances.

In addition to Moira, Blizzard also presented their latest animated short, “Honor and Glory,” to audiences around the world.

Its story finds Reinhardt struggling with a decision. In the process, he journeys into his past, recollecting a harrowing experience at the battle for Eichenwalde.

A new hybrid Assault/Escort map called “Blizzard World” was also revealed. As a Blizzard-themed amusement park, it boasts sections dedicated to “Hearthstone”, “StarCraft”, and more.

While Blizzard World won’t officially launch till early 2018, PC players will soon be able to try it out in the Public Test Realm.

Lastly, eight new skins were revealed, most of them transforming heroes into characters from other Blizzard franchises. For example, Widowmaker turns into Nova from “StarCraft”, Roadhog into the Butcher from “Diablo”, and Torbjorn into Magni Bronzebeard from “World of Warcraft.” These skins will be available in 2018 in standard loot boxes.

Heroes of the Storm

Blizzard’s hero brawler is also receiving a massive update in the form of two new heroes: Hanzo from “Overwatch” and Alexstrasza from “World of Warcraft,” who are being billed as the Dragons of the Nexus.

Hanzo is an Assassin who makes a great scout and ranged damage dealer. On the other hand, Alexstrasza is a ranged Support who, in addition to healing allies, can transform into a dragon thanks to her Dragon Queen trait. Both heroes will be available before the year’s end.

Blizzard has already released an Alexstrasza Hero Spotlight, so we can expect her to be the first of the two newcomers to be launched.

Additionally, the game will receive the 2018 Gameplay Update come next year, which promises voice chat, performance-based matchmaking, an enhanced camera, laning improvements, stealth rework, and evolved battleground mechanics.
