Google to shut down Chrome’s parental control features

Google will soon be shutting down its Chrome's parental control features for desktop, but this will be replaced with a more inter-operable one within the year.

An article on TechCrunch said that starting Friday, January 12, 2018, parents can no longer create or re-import supervised users, but they will still be able to use their existing Chrome Supervised Users on Chromebooks, Windows, Mac, and Linux.

And, by January 15 (Monday), remote supervision available at chrome.com/manage will no longer be available. "Parents won't be able to change browsing restrictions for their kids," it said.

But parents need not worry, an enhanced version of the newer Family Link  parent control solution, which was launched in September for mobile devices, will be out later this year, the article added.

Citing an email from Chrome, the article said "It seems likely that what will be coming out is a new parental control feature that will connect Family Link to the desktop, although the email didn’t specify this." —LBG, GMA News
