PAGASA: Typhoon Ramil intensifies, accelerates, to exit PAR before noon

Typhoon Ramil (international name Danas) intensified and accelerated slightly, and continued moving across the Philippine Sea early Monday, state weather forecasters said.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA estimated that as of 4 a.m., Ramil was 950 km northeast of Itbayat town in Batanes province.

Ramil packed maximum winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph, and is forecast to move northwest at 28 kph.

PAGASA forecaster Connie Dadivas, meanwhile, said over radio dzBB that Ramil was stil too far away to directly affect any part of the country.

Dadivas added their models projected Ramil exiting the Philippine area of responsibility before noon Monday.

She said some parts of the country would experience rain but this was due to the inter-tropical convergence zone.

Monday outlook

PAGASA said Palawan, Central Visayas and Mindanao may expect "cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms."

Metro Manila and the rest of the country would be "partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening."

Moderate to strong winds from the northwest to southwest will prevail over northern and Central Luzon, and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

Light to moderate winds from the west to southwest will prevail over the rest of the country with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. — DVM, GMA News
