Storm signals up in Luzon as Seniang moves toward Panay Gulf

Parts of Luzon were placed under storm signals before noon Tuesday as Tropical Storm Seniang (Jangmi) moved toward Panay Gulf, state weather agency PAGASA said.

 

In its 11 a.m. update, PAGASA said Seniang was estimated at 75 km southeast of Iloilo City as of 10 a.m.

It packed maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph, and is forecast to move west at 11 kph.

 

By Wednesday morning, it is expected to be 210 km west of Puerto Princesa City. By Thursday morning, it is forecast to be 170 km southwest of Puerto Princesa City.

 

On Friday morning, it is expected to be 530 km southwest of Puerto Princesa City or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Seniang has estimated rainfall of 7.5 to 15 mm per hour (moderate to heavy) within its 300-km diameter.

 

It reminded residents in low-lying and mountainous areas of areas under storm signals to be alert against possible flash floods and landslides.

 

Also, it said ocean waves may reach up to five meters.  

 

"Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of Luzon, Visayas and over the northern and eastern seaboards of Mindanao," it said.
