Typhoon Ferdie to bring very strong winds, heavy rainfall to N. Luzon


PAGASA has advised residents of Northern Luzon to take precautionary measures as Typhoon Ferdie continues to threaten with "very strong" winds and heavy rainfall.

In its 2 p.m. bulletin on Tuesday, the weather bureau said the typhoon has maximum sustained winds of up to 215 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 250 kph.

The center of the typhoon is located 260 kilometers east of Basco in Batanes, as of 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 4 is still raised over Batanes.

According to PAGASA, the wind may cause heavy damage to high-risk structures in Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands.

The Babuyan Group of Islands, which has been placed under Signal No. 3, may also experience widespread power outages.

Structures in Ilocos Norte, Apayao and Northern Cagayan, which are under Signal No. 3, may experience light to moderate damage.

The rest of Cagayan, Northern Isabela, Kalinga, Abra and Northern Ilocos Sur, where Signal No. 1 is raised, were also warned of light damage to structures located in the area.
 
Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to prevail over the region.
