Agaton moves closer to Palawan; storm signals lifted from several areas


Tropical depression Agaton has moved closer to Puerto Princesa City in Palawan province, weather bureau PAGASA said Tuesday afternoon.

As of 1 p.m., the center of the tropical depression was estimated at 245 kilometers east southeast of Puerto Princesa City or 265 kilometers west of Dumaguete city in Negros Oriental.

Only Palawan province, including Cuyo Island, is under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Number One.

The cyclone was packing maximum sustained wind of 55 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 65 kph.

It was still moving west at 28 kph.

The cyclone is expected to make its sixth landfall in Palawan province this afternoon and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by early Thursday morning.

Heavy rains are still expected to prevail over Bicol, Eastern Visayas, southern quezon, Panay Island and the rest of the Mimaropa region. —ALG, GMA News
