Josie traverses Bashi Channel; Signal No. 1 up over Batanes, Babuyan Islands

Tropical Depression Josie continued to move north northeast at 25 kph on Sunday as it passed over the Bashi Channel, PAGASA said in its 11 a.m. update.

At 10 a.m., the center of Josie was spotted 170 km northeast of Basco, Batanes.

It had maximum sustained winds of 60 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 75 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands.

These areas will have occasional rains with gusty winds.

Meanwhile, scattered to widespread monsoon rains from the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will continue to be felt over the following areas:

  • Metro Manila
  • Central Luzon
  • Ilocos Region
  • Cordillera Administrative Region
  • rest of Cagayan Valley
  • Western Visayas
  • Cavite
  • Batangas
  • Rizal
  • Laguna
  • Mindoro Provinces
  • Northern Palawan including Calamian Group of Islands.

PAGASA said residents in these areas and those living near rivers, low-lying areas, and mountainous areas should take the necessary precautions against possible flooding and landslides.

Sea travel is discouraged as the waters over the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central Luzon remain risky. Waves may reach as high as 4 meters in these areas.

Josie is expected to be 585 km north of Basco, Batanes by Monday morning, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

The next Severe Weather Bulletin will be released at 2 p.m. by PAGASA. —KG, GMA News
