PAGASA: Paeng almost stationary, may exit PAR on Saturday

Typhoon Paeng (international name: Trami) is almost stationary on Monday afternoon, weather bureau PAGASA said.

"'Yung movement niya sa ngayon, halos hindi po gumagalaw itong si Bagyong Paeng as of latest analysis... stationary po siya as of 3 p.m.," weather specialist Loriedin dela Cruz said at a press briefing.

As of 3 p.m., PAGASA spotted Paeng at 715 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes packing maximum sustained winds of 200 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 245 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA said Paeng is not yet enhancing the southwest monsoon over Luzon and the Visayas, but there is already a slight enhancement in Zamboanga Peninsula and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

PAGASA said Paeng would bring light to moderate rains over Northern Luzon on Friday.

Paeng may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday, according to PAGASA.

Meanwhile, the weather agency also warned that localized thunderstorms may prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country which may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers. — RSJ, GMA News
