What inspired Solenn Heussaff’s paintings for her second exhibit, ‘Kalsada’?

"Alyas Robin Hood" star Solenn Heussaff revealed the inspiration behind her second exhibit "Kalsada" in a post on her website.

Solenn said the subjects of her paintings are based on people she has met every day while traveling around the country.

"I shared a bit about my first exhibit a few days ago and I told you guys that what really inspires me to paint are people. Because of this, my second exhibit is going to be called Kalsada," she wrote.

"It’s called Kalsada, because the subjects are based on everyday people I’ve seen and met while going around the Philippines," she added.

With the help of her 3-year-old nephew Kaeden, her art is brought to life with more color, showing a new perspective on how children always see things in a positive way.

"It was actually Kaeden who used so much color, and I guess it kind of makes you appreciate how children naturally see things in a positive way. And that’s why I did this with him—so our people’s stories can be brought to life in a much brighter light," she said.

For the places she hasn't been able to visit yet, she said, a friend of hers in Sulu helped her out by sending photos.

"Even if I couldn’t be physically there, I was able to paint people from Mindanao with the help of my friend in Sulu, Bea of Herman & Co. She took a lot of photos of the people she met there and I painted the portraits based on these pictures," Solenn said.

Last July, Solenn explored Biri in Northern Samar.

"I was able to see another part of our country that I didn’t know about. Biri is such a quaint and beautiful place," she said. Her experiences in the beautiful island town added to her inspiration while working on her second exhibit.

"Kalsada" will launch on October 20 and can be viewed, free of admission, until November 5 at the Provenance Art Gallery in Shangri-La at the Fort . — Jannielyn Ann Bigtas/BM, GMA News
