Gil Cuerva wants to correct abusive men’s ‘trash’ treatment of women
Newbie actor and Kapuso hunk Gil Cuerva wants to lead by example when it comes to how men should act towards other people, especially women.
In an interview on Tuesday, Gil told GMA News Online that he wants to play a role that would make a difference.
"Right now my archetype is the leading man. In this day and age, a lot of cases are coming up about how men are mistreating women, or just being trash in general," he said.
"Hopefully, as a leading man, I'll be given a role where I can be an example of how men in this modern day and age should be treating women and everyone else. What the correct way of acting towards people that men should do," he added.
Gil emphasized that it's "not cool" or acceptable to be a jerk to people, including women.
He said that he wants to be an example of a true gentleman.
"I want to be an example of a true gentleman, where my role...can create that change in culture where it's not cool, or it's unacceptable to be a jerk to women and everyone. It's able to change the perspective of men right now who don't want to listen to women and continue to mistreat women," he said.
The 22-year-old Filipino-Spanish actor added that boys' attitudes can be molded if their onscreen idols have good values.
"Hopefully if all the young boys out there sees someone onscreen that they can look up to, who has good values, and shows them the proper way to act towards women and other people, hopefully that can create a change," he said.
For Gil, who is a gentleman offscreen, it is "just simple" to know that you have to respect women, and that it is "not rocket science" figuring out that it's wrong to mistreat or abuse them.
"We all know how wrong it is, we don't even need to explain it or expound on it. It's how to stop it, that's more of the question. How can I create a change?" he asked. — BM, GMA News
