A London reception for the 75th anniversary of the Golden Globes

London — Libations in the form of red, white, and champagne were being passed around to celebrities and guests who attended the very special British reception hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Golden Globe Awards held at the May Fair Hotel in London.

HFPA President Meher Tatna and HFPA members welcomed guests and as they gathered and exchanged pleasantries, hors oeuvres were served.

The reception is part of the slate of events celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Golden Globe Awards, which will air live on NBC on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 at 5-8 p.m. PT (8-11 p.m. ET).

Funds garnered through Golden Globes licensing fees allowed the HFPA to continue their mission of fostering education and creative expression in television, film, art and empowering the next generation of storytellers.

This year, the HFPA, through their Charitable Trust, will distribute $2.8 million in to a diverse group of organizations and institutions within the entertainment industry. Over the last 25 years, the HFPA has given nearly $30 million in grants, provided over 1,500 scholarships to underrepresented individuals, and helped restore over 90 films.

“Mr. Robot” Christian Slater photo-bombed one of our groufies while co-star Rami Malek, told us how he is set to portray musician Freddie Mercury in the upcoming biographical drama “Bohemian Rhapsody”, is set for a Christmas Day-release on 2018.

At one point, we caught Malek in an animated conversation with Jason Isaacs (aka Lucuis Malfoy in the Harry Potter series, Col. William Tavington in “The Patriot,” and criminal Michael Caffee in the Showtime series “Brotherhood”).

“Outlander’s” Sam Heughan sporting a new hairdo and minus the beard reminded us again that he wanted to visit the Philippines one of these days, while his lovely co-star Caitriona Balfe, who portrays Claire Beauchamp Randall/Fraser in the series, was a standout in an orange long dress.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (also known as Mr. Eko in “Lost” or Malko in the fifth season of “Game of Thrones”) opted for a glass of orange juice as he mingled with the other guests. He told us that he is filming his dream project, his directorial debut movie, “Farming,” a semi-autobiographical story based on his childhood.

Jim Sturgess, the British actor who caught our attention and heart in his breakthrough role as Jude in 2007's musical romance drama film “Across the Universe” is now all grown-up and looking more mature with his beard. He informed us that he is excited of his new TV show, the pre-apocalyptic crime series, “Hard Sun,” set in contemporary London which will air in January 2018.

British-American actress Hayley Atwell, who is best known for her portrayal of Peggy Carter in various films and television series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was gorgeous in her gold gown. She also talked to us about her upcoming American comedy-drama adventure film, “Christopher Robin,” where she portrays Evelyn, Christopher Robin’s (portrayed by Ewan McGregor) wife.

Christine Baranski, whom we last saw in “Into the Woods”, was looking sharp in a gray suit dress. She was excited to talk to us about doing the “Mamma Mia” sequel, “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”, which she is filming with Meryl Streep (as Donna Sheridan-Carmichael) and Cher (as Donna’s mother).

She returns as Tanya Chesham-Leigh, Donna’s former bandmate. She revealed that they are filming in Croatia and Shepperton Studios in Surrey, England to film some song and dance numbers with Cher. She said it is planned for release on July 20, 2018.
