Dwayne Johnson’s daughter Simone is the first Golden Globe Ambassador

Los Angeles — Statuesque and lovely Simone Garcia Johnson, daughter of actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and film producer Dany Garcia, was chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) as the 2018 Golden Globe Ambassador for the 75th Anniversary of the Golden Globe Awards.

HFPA president Meher Tatna made the announcement at a star-studded party at Catch LA in West Hollywood, hosted by the HFPA and InStyle. She also revealed the honoree’s new title, formerly known as Miss/Mr. Golden Globe.

“As we look forward to the 75th anniversary of the Golden Globe Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association members decided to expand this role to embody the HFPA’s philanthropic efforts year round,” said Tatna. “The honoree will now be referred to as the Golden Globe Ambassador and we could not think of a better representative than Simone to carry on this tradition, as her values closely reflect everything the HFPA stands for.”

Johnson also announced her partnership with GlobalGirl Media as part of her newly minted title. Supported by the HFPA through their annual grant giving work, GlobalGirl Media empowers young women in journalism from disadvantaged areas by providing them the tools they need to become journalists and the opportunity to use their voice.

The 16-year-old beauty said, “I’ve been lucky enough to grow up in a household with strong role models and feel so honored to represent the HFPA for its 75th Anniversary. As the newly minted Golden Globe Ambassador, I hope to serve as a role model to young people everywhere and empower them to speak out on issues they are passionate about.”

Selected by the HFPA, the honoree, who will assist during the Golden Globe Awards ceremony, is traditionally the son or daughter of one of the industry's most respected actors/actresses/directors/producers of our time.

Last year, daughters of Sylvester Stallone and ex-model wife Jennifer Flavin — Scarlet, Sophia and Sistine — were the Miss Golden Globes.

Also present that night to give support to the new Golden Globe Ambassador were former Miss Golden Globes Corinne Foxx (2016), daughter of Jamie Foxx and Greer Grammer (2015), daughter of Kelsey Grammer.

Some of the early Hollywood celebrity attendees we bumped into were Jamie Bell (“Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool”, “Turn”) who told us that he had just arrived from New York and actually changed clothes in the bathroom; the lovely Vietnamese actress Hong Chau (“Downsizing”, “Big Little Lies”) who was a stunner in a black Versace dress; the talented 11-year-old Jacob Tremblay (“Wonder”), and Keala Settle, the singer who will blow you away when you see her in the Hugh Jackman musical film, “The Greatest Showman.”

The cast of “This Is Us” — Mandy Moore, Chrissy Metz, Justin Hartley, Milo Ventimiglia, Susan Kelechi Watson — posed for fans and photographers, as was the cast of Guillermo del Toro’s “The Shape of Water” — Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer, Michael Shannon and Richard Jenkins.

Jake Gyllenhaal (“Stronger”) was gracious with his fans as he gamely posed for them. Jeremy Renner (“Wild River”) who has been to the Philippines for “Bourne Legacy” said he could not wait to go back to the Philippines.

“The Filipinos are a happy people. They are always smiling. They love to sing and dance. I enjoyed my stay there and I want to go back,” he told us and our guests Dr. Tess Mauricio and Liza Castillo.

Armie Hammer and his “Call Me By Your Name” co-star Timothee Chalamet were horsing around when we saw them at the party. The two actors must've bonded well in their movie because it was pretty much the same scene when we saw them in Toronto recently.

Lovely Salma Hayek (“Beatriz at Dinner”) was smoking a cigarette when we bumped into her and she recalled those days when we were dancing in Cancun a few years ago. Lea Michele formerly of “Glee” and now in a new TV series, “The Mayor,” screamed with delight when she saw us and we reminisced the day we first met her on the set of “Glee.”

Rachel Bloom of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” also couldn’t help but shriek in delight when we saw each other at the party and talked about her sexy musical number in the TV show which also stars Fil-Am Vincent Rodriguez III. We teased her as being an honorary Filipino.

Abbie Cornish (“The Girl Who Invented Kissing,” “Geostorm”) couldn’t help but photobomb one of our photos with Jake Gyllenhaal; she kept making side glances at him. Mary J. Blige (“Mudbound”) hugged us tightly when we saw her as she recalled our one-on-one TV interview with her.

Dee Rees, “Mudbound” director looked amazing in her red glittery jacket. Saoirse Ronan, who was blooming in a peach dress, talked to us about how much she enjoyed working with Greta Gerwig who wrote and directed Ronan’s film, “Lady Bird.”

We almost did not recognize Sebastian Stan (“I, Tonya”) who was sporting a beard while another bearded guy, Dan Stevens (“Beauty and the Beast,” “Marshall”) came by to greet us.

Attendees mingled about throughout the evening while enjoying tunes by DJ Mr.Best. Guests had signature cocktails and wines, and enjoyed tray-passed hors d'oeuvres featuring beet and goat cheese macaroons with hazelnut vinaigrette, truffled mushroom arancini, tuna tacos with watermelon, tomato and basil reduction, short rib Gougeres with parsnip puree, Catch Roll with crab, salmon and miso-honey and a vegetable king roll with king oyster mushroom, cashew and spicy miso.

They ended the evening with an assortment of frozen peanut butter pops, berry skewer with prosecco apricot glaze and churro bites with roasted white chocolate ganache.

To get a souvenir of the memorable evening, guests also flocked to the Moet & Chandon photo area where they can have their photos taken holding huge Moet & Chandon bottles or golden glasses. We got lucky when we got a group shot with the cast of “This is Us.” Cheers! — LA, GMA News
