Blake Griffin, Paul Pierce, Damian Lillard and DeMar DeRozan to test Gilas in exhibition

(Updated 5:02pm) Philippine national team Gilas head coach Chot Reyes and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Manuel V. Pangilinan took to Twitter Wednesday to announce an exhibition game between the PHL men’s basketball team and a handful of NBA players.

“OMG! Blake, Damian, Demar, the TRUTH in THE biggest basketball charity event ever!” tweeted Reyes, with Pangilinan sending out a similar message a few seconds later.

PLDT HOME later confirmed that the company will fly in Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers), Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers), Paul Pierce (Brooklyn Nets) and DeMar DeRozan (Toronto Raptors) for the two-day event called "The Last HOME Stand" from July 22 to 23 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Reyes later added that former NBA player and coach John Lucas will accompany the four players, and added that proceeds from the two-day event will go towards the Philippine Disaster Relief Fund.

“This is a fitting send-off for Gilas as they defend the Philippine flag at the 2014 FIBA World Cup. This is our grand comeback to the world stage, so having a special pick-up game with a powerhouse cast of players will definitely rally the spirits of Filipinos and inspire the boys to play harder,” Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes also said in the press release.

This isn’t the first time Pangilinan has shelled out to bring NBA talent to the Philippines. In 2011, during the NBA’s last lockout, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Chris Paul, Tyreke Evans, Derek Fisher, JaVale McGree, James Harden, and Derrick Williams for a pair of exhibition games against Gilas and a PBA selection. - AMD, GMA News
