Castro scores 38 as TNT sets up finals duel with San Miguel

Jayson Castro put up big numbers on Saturday to lift TNT KaTropa past Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, 107-103, to claim the right to battle the San Miguel Beermen in the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup finals.

The veteran guard poured in 38 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists to lead his squad.

Kelly Williams was the only other starter in double figures with 14 points and 11 boards, while import Josh Smith registered 18 points off the bench after not finishing Game 3. Former FEU standouts RR Garcia and Roger Pogoy, meanwhile, chipped in 16 and 13 points, respectively.

LA Tenorio hit a triple to put Ginebra on top with 7:39 left, 106-103, but TNT unleashed a 19-1 run capped by charities from Kelly Williams to make it a 15-point game with 1:49 remaining.

Ginebra's starters did a lot of damage, with Japeth Aguilar tallying 31 points with seven boards. Import Justin Brownlee scored 25 points with 15 rebounds and seven assists, while LA Tenorio had 20 points, 10 assists, and four rebounds. Scottie Thompson rounded up the starters in double figures with 10 markers, six rebounds, and four assists, while Joe Devance added 14 off the bench.

The Gin Kings shot a decent 41 percent from the field, but they failed to contain TNT as coach Nash Racela's squad connected on 47 of their 89 attempts for a high 52 percent. — DVM, GMA News
