Chot Reyes ejected as Gilas Pilipinas falls to Lebanon

The Philippines lost its cool before losing big to home team Lebanon, 106-87, on Saturday in the classification round of the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.

Adding insult to the injury was the ejection of Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes, who was called for two technical fouls in the fourth quarter after running into the court to protest a non-call on a shot by June Mar Fajardo.

The incident happened with 5:23 mark of the game and Lebanon comfortably ahead by 18 points, 86-68.

Lebanon had a hot shooting start, taking a 27-12 lead in the first quarter that was enough to tide them over throughout the game. Gilas cut the deficit to just five points in the second period, but could not come any closer the rest of the way.

With the defeat, the Philippines could only finish seventh place at best if it wins on Sunday against Jordan.

It was the second straight blowout loss for the Philippines after winning its first three games in the tournament. Gilas was knocked out of contention after a 32-point loss to South Korea last Wednesday. --JST, GMA News
