Bulldogs barrel past Warriors in opening day play

The NU Bulldogs took advantage of the UE Red Warriors' spotty shooting to take a 86-69 win in opening day play of the UAAP Men's Basketball competition.

Dave Yu was stellar off the bench for the Bulldogs, hitting 14 points in 14 minutes, while J-Jay Alejandro added 11 markers with five boards, six assists, and five steals.

NU raced to a 20-13 lead in the opening period, before UE uncorked a 16-11 run in the second to tie the game at 29-all. The Bulldogs were able to recover on time, though, unleashing their own 7-1 spurt to take a 38-30 advantage at the break.

Off the break, troubles continued to compound for the Warriors, as Alvin Pasaol was whistled for two quick fouls for his third and fourth. NU, on the other hand, had a gem off the bench with Yu, who knocked down two consecutive baskets to stretch the lead to 57-45.

Pasaol was reinserted by UE Red Warriors head coach, but NU had too many options to cruise to victory. —ALG, GMA News
