The SBP clarified that Ravena did not test positive for "illegal drugs." Ravena said the banned substance came from an over-the-counter mixed drink he consumed before Gilas' game against Japan in February.
The Philippines won that game, 89-84, with Ravena playing a key bench role for Gilas. The SBP said the game's result won't be affected by his suspension.
He is expected to continue to play his rookie season for the NLEX Road Warriors in the PBA while the SBP seeks clarification with FIBA about the coverage of the ban.
SBP officials described the incident as a "wakeup call" for Philippine basketball, saying it will embark on an information campaign for athletes to be more mindful of substances that are available in the market.
