Mariano hits 20 as Ginebra humbles San Miguel

Aljon Mariano had 20 points off a perfect 7 of 7 clip from the field to lead Barangay Ginebra San Miguel to a 110-102 win over the San Miguel Beermen on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum for the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup.

Ginebra was missing some key players, including Greg Slaughter, Japeth Aguilar, Jervy Cruz, Sol Mercado, Art Dela Crus, and Raymond Aguilar, but the healthy players had enough to pull the team through.

San Miguel’s biggest lead came in the first quarter, but the last three periods saw Ginebra hold on to the lead with ease.

Justin Brownlee had 29 points with 19 rebounds and seven assists, while Joe Devance added 17 with seven assists as well.

San Miguel, meanwhile, struggled without June Mar Fajardo and Marcio Lassiter. Christian Stanhardinger led the Beermen off the bench with 25 points and 11 boards, while Arwind Santos paced the starters with 22. Chris Ross added 18, while Alex Cabagnot struggled with a 4 of 17 clip for 10 points. — DVM, GMA News
