Filipino boxing legend Gerry Peñalosa weighs in on Pacquiao-Mayweather

The mega fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather may be six years late but people from all around the globe can still expect a highly competitive contest according to retired two-division world champion Gerry Peñalosa.

From training, styles and cornermen instructions come fight night, every detail should be meticulously studied and reviewed. Such preparation will require more than 100% in training camp, a grueling mental and physical demand that must be attended to so one fighter will emerge over the other, cited Peñalosa.

"It's a very good kind of fight, competitive and tactical. The cornermen come the fight are very important because there will be changes each round, there will be adjustments," Peñalosa told GMA News Online.

"Manny's style will make it difficult for Mayweather. Aside from being a southpaw, he's very explosive making him hard to defend against. I'm sure Freddie Roach will come up with a plan to nullify Mayweather's shoulder roll defense, making Manny's hard combinations more difficult to defend."

As for Mayweather, Peñalosa believes that the unbeaten pound-for-pound king will stick to what he does best- boxing and moving his way to victory.

"Mayweather will do nothing more than try to outbox Manny, throw jabs, make Manny miss then make him pay," Peñalosa quipped. "Everything will also fall on what condition they'll be in. The hungriness, the will to win can make a huge difference."

In the end, the retired Philippine boxing legend is convinced that Pacquiao, a 3 to 1 underdog, is bound to hand Mayweather his first professional defeat- be it by knockout or by decision.

"Manny will win because he's challenged, he will prepare hard, being an underdog motivates him. It makes him work hard, it gives him hunger and a hungry boxer is always a tough opponent," says Peñalosa.

"I think Manny will pressure him until he gets him on the ropes where Mayweather will find it hard to stay away from his punches. Manny's volume punching and cutting the ring will make Mayweather struggle. Even if he runs, he will eventually get caught specially during the late rounds.

"Manny will get him between rounds 9 to 12. Either he wins by late knockout or decision." - RAF, GMA News
