Horn shocks Pacquiao in brutal Brisbane fight

Upstart Jeff Horn shocked  a bloodied Manny Pacquiao with a surprising unanimous decision victory on Sunday, with the judges scoring the fight 117-111, 115-113 and 115-113.

Fighting in front of some 50,000 fans at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia, Horn brought the fight to Pacquiao from the opening bell to improve to 17 wins against one draw.

"He deserves it, no complaint," said Pacquiao after the fight.

Pacquiao was hampered after suffering two cuts on his hairline due to accidental headbutts, first in the sixth round and again in the seventh. The Filipino champion suffered his seventh loss against 59 wins and two draws.

Horn, whose battered face betrayed the cost of his strategy to keep coming forward for most of the fight, started to fade in the last third of the fight, getting rocked by haymakers from Pacquiao in the ninth round.

"I'm about to finish him, but he survived," Pacquiao said.

Horn got his bearings back in the 10th round, even as Pacquiao looked like the fresher fighter. But Horn's strategy to be the busier in the first few rounds paid off in the scorecards. --JST, GMA News
