Pacquiao eyes June fight with Matthysse in Malaysia

Eight-time world boxing champion and Senator Manny Pacquiao said Wednesday his next fight will be on June 24 in Malaysia.

“Supposedly May pero sabi ko may trabaho pa ako dito so ang ginawa ko in-extend ko ng June so by June siya. June 23 sa Amerika (US time), June 24 dito,” Pacquiao told reporters after his confirmation as a reserve Army officer with a rank of colonel.

He said he wanted to fight Argentine Lucas Matthysse, who holds the World Boxing Association welterweight division title, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Pacquiao said he is also considering other boxers but there is a bigger possibility that he will fight Matthysse.

“Kino-consider ko rin (ang ibang boxer) pero malaki posibilidad na kay Matthysse,” he said.

Asked if his work as a lawmaker will not be affected with his training for his upcoming fight, he said: “Hindi naman (maapektuhan ang trabaho). Training, trabaho nagagawa naman natin ‘yun, saka break naman n’un.”
