Pacquiao starts conditioning workouts for Mathysse fight in June


Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao on Monday started his conditioning workouts for his fight against Argentinian World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight titleholder Lucas Mathysse in slated on June 24 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Pacquiao jogged for two rounds around the 2.6-kilometer long Cambridge Circle in Forbes Park before doing abdominal exercises.

“I started early because my last fight was in July last year. My opponent is a reigning WBA champion so I must be in tip-top shape when I climb up the ring,” Pacquiao said.

Pacquiao said that his focus at this stage was on conditioning. His gym workouts will start in the middle of April.

“I started doing just a light workout to boost my stamina, speed and power. Training at the boxing gym will begin in the middle of April,” Pacquiao said.

Pacquiao said the bout with Matthysse was 99 percent in the bag.

Golden Boy Promotions top honcho Oscar Dela Hoya and his entourage would arrive in Manila in the first week of April.

Matthysse is fighting under Golden Boy Promotions.

Pacquiao's MP Promotions is promoting the Pacquiao-Matthysse fight.

The fight would be formally announced in a  press conference in Manila when Dela Hoya and Matthysse arrive.

Both fighters and their parties will fly to Malaysia afterward. —NB, GMA News
